On October 10, Rivermont Schools’ Tidewater campus hosted the Tales of Tidewater Talent: Back to School Open House & Talent Showcase to reveal their new and improved building in Tidewater, VA.
The new building is 16,365 square feet of space with elements including 10 classrooms, multi-purpose gymnasium, playground, mobile science and computer lab, an independent living skills room, a sensory room, and multiple therapy rooms. The purpose-built space promotes continued educational and emotional growth and development in a spacious, well-equipped environment.
The event brought in many family members, community members, and education advocates. Attendees were greeted at the door and given a tour of the new building by volunteers from the upper grade levels, including Angelina who is a passionate student in the 11th grade who has made amazing progress throughout her time at Rivermont Tidewater. During one of her tours, she gave an inspiring testimony about what she has learned. She said, “After enough time, I found that it’s okay to take wrong direction here and there. And, over time, you’ll find that you will be okay. And, over time, you will find that the world is not out to get you and you’ll find that you’re okay here, you’re safe and you’re wanted.”
The event concluded with a talent showcase that brought the audience to laughter and tears. It began with a musical performance from the ABA group and continued with juggling, dancing, singing, and comedic acts from students. The showcase ended with an exciting performance from the kindergarten class where they choreographed a routine jumping in and out of hula hoops to the song “Jerusalema” by Master KG. There was also ample food, snacks, and beverages for everyone to enjoy.
