Rivermont Schools is proud to announce that Dr. Beth Ackerman, Senior Vice President of Rivermont Schools, has been appointed to the Virginia Board of Education by Governor Glenn Youngkin. Dr. Ackerman officially swore her oath of office on April 11, 2025, signing her name and affixing the Lesser Seal of the Commonwealth in Richmond, VA. Her term will run from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2028. 

With decades of experience in special education and school leadership, Dr. Ackerman continues to be a strong advocate for students with diverse learning needs. As a member of the Virginia Board of Education, Dr. Ackerman will support the Board’s mission to develop policies and provide leadership that improve student achievement, prepare students for postsecondary success and the workforce, and ensure they become engaged, self-reliant citizens. The VA Board of Education vision is to build an excellent statewide system of public education that draws strength from diversity and ensures equal opportunity in a safe, healthy learning environment, which aligns closely with Dr. Ackerman’s lifelong commitment to students with special needs.  

“I’m excited to be a voice for all of the students with special needs across the Commonwealth and their families,” said Dr. Ackerman. “With a background in teacher education, particularly special education teachers, I look forward to working with my colleagues to explore how we can better recruit and retain excellent educators. It is a critical time in our field as students’ needs continue to rise, and educators are retiring or leaving the field at alarming rates. I am hopeful I can provide a varying perspective to these issues in this new role.”
